Welcome Events

The Disability Cultural Center works with campus partners to welcome new and returning students, staff and faculty to campus in the fall. Events that take place during the first few weeks of the fall semester are designed to connect people with resources and community. Visit the DCC Event Calendar for our full list of programming.

Accommodation Orientation

Disability and Access will be hosting virtual sessions August 18-21 to support students with disabilities in setting up, or using, their academic accommodations. These sessions will be dedicated to specific topics such as an overview of applying for accommodations, self-advocacy skills, flexible attendance, and more. Students can choose to attend any or all sessions that may be relevant to their accommodations and interests. ND@UT Western Welcome

Date and Time: Thursday, August 28, 4-5:30 p.m

Location: WCP 2.304 (Black Box Theatre)

Saddle up for a Western-themed Welcome Mixer! Stop by this come-and-go event for themed snacks, games and sensory crafts in a relaxed environment. NDatUT events are designed with the sensory and social needs of neurodivergent students in mind and are open to the campus community. This event is co-hosted by Longhorn TIES Neurodivergence Support and the Disability Cultural Center. 

Disability Resource Fair

Date and Time: Wednesday, September 3, 3:30-5 p.m.

Location: Student Services Building (SSB)G1.106, G1.104, Glenn Maloney Room

The Disability Resource Fair is your chance to connect with all things disability at UT. Come learn about student organizations, student services, Disability Studies, assistive technology and more. We’ll get started at 3:30 with refreshments, conversation and tote bag decorating, followed by our Resource Fair from 4-5 p.m. Stay the whole time or drop by as your schedule and energy allow. All are welcome to explore the many disability resources at UT. RSVP for email updates and reminders.

Deaf/Hard of Hearing Meet and Greet

Date and Time: Friday, September 5, 1-3 p.m.

Location: Student Services Building (SSB) 2.106 (New DCC Space)

Join the DCC, Deaf Culture Alliance and the National Deaf Center for a Meet and Greet with Deaf and hard of hearing members of the UT community. Get to know fellow students, staff, faculty and service providers while exploring the new DCC space. All methods of communication are welcome; ASL interpreters will be provided. 

DCC Open House

Date and Time: Tuesday, September 9, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Location: Student Services Building (SSB) 2.106 (New DCC Space)

Come help us celebrate the opening of the new DCC space! Explore the space, visit our art exhibit and library, and enjoy refreshments, activities and conversation with members of UT community. All are welcome to drop by as your schedule and energy allows.
