About the Artist
Rachel Salcido (@rachelsalcidoo) is a Mexican American artist from El Paso, Texas, whose work explores identity and culture through vivid, expressive form and texture. Now based in Austin, Rachel brings a powerful perspective shaped by lived experience and recent studies at The University of Texas at Austin, where they graduated earlier this year.
Their first solo exhibition, Cuerpos Fronterizos, brings together works that trace disabled bodies navigating both physical and metaphorical borderlands. The collection explores the intersections of disability, nature and Mexican American identity through fence-like motifs and near-deified fruit to consider liminality and passage. Rachel foregrounds interdependence and care as radical, transformative forces within the lived experience of disability — offering a sense of unity and transcendence across thresholds.
