DCC events are designed to provide various opportunities for students, staff and faculty to learn about and promote disability culture, identity, resources and community. The DCC also promotes disability-related events hosted by campus partners. Please read the event description and intended audience to find events that are a good fit for you.

Adapted/Wheelchair Tennis & Pickleball

Date and Time: Mondays 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Location: Whitaker Courts, Courts 9 and 10

The DCC has partnered with Austin Adapted Sports and RecSports to host weekly Wheelchair/Adapted Tennis & Pickleball nights starting January 27. All disability and experience levels are welcome; equipment is provided. To attend RSVP here by Mondays at noon.

Disability in the News

Date and Time: Mondays 12-1 p.m

Location: Zoom (RSVP for link)

Join us on Zoom every Monday starting January 13 from 12:00-1:00 p.m.to discuss what is happening in the news related to disability; whether its a viral video, a policy update, or anything else you want to discuss related to disability and current events. Participants are welcome to bring a topic to contribute to the week’s conversation or arrive ready to listen and discuss what others share. All are welcome! RSVP here to receive a Zoom link.

NEW: Disabled/Neurodivergent Faculty & Staff Meet-Ups

Disabled/Neurodivergent Faculty & Staff Meet-Ups are a monthly virtual event hosted by the DCC for UT faculty and staff who identify as disabled/neurodivergent/chronically ill/Deaf to come together for community-building and to discuss common experiences. Each month will feature open discussion around monthly topics. RSVP for Zoom link and email reminders.

Accessible Pedagogy Conversations

Date and Time: Wednesdays 12-1 p.m.

Join The DCC, Disability and Access, and the Center for Teaching and Learning for our new Accessible Pedagogy Conversations. This informal, peer-directed space is open to all instructors who hope to share questions, strategies and recommendations regarding accommodations and inclusion in learning environments. We will explore new topics each week to enhance accessibility for all. More information and RSVP here.

Join the DCC in discussion around a variety of disability-related topics each week. Whether you want to learn more about the topic or have experiences or resources you are willing to share, these Disability Discussions provide space to have conversations you may not be able to have anywhere else. The DCC and Longhorn TIES will be hosting monthly Students on the Spectrum social activities and discussion nights. This group provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students who identify as autistic to connect, play games, and share experiences and resources with one another. No diagnosis/proof of diagnosis is required. RSVP here if you’d like to attend.

Digital Accessibility Hour

Date and Time: Third Thursday of the month 1-2 p.m.

Join us for Digital Accessibility Hour, an open collaboration forum hosted by the Disability Cultural Center and Disability and Access. Each session showcases examples of accessible versus inaccessible digital items and shares best practices to guide the creation of more accessible resources. It’s an opportunity to ask questions, network, and learn from others across campus.

Connecting Around Chronicity: Drop-In Support for Students with Life-Altering Medical Conditions

Hosted by the  Counseling and Mental Health Center and Disability Cultural Center. All groups are free and confidential.

Biweekly on Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m. CST

Alice Lazare and Emily Shryock (DCC Staff Member)

Location:  SSB 3.200k and Zoom

Living with a chronic illness or condition can bring unique challenges, especially while navigating the demands of university life. Connecting Around Chronicity offers students an opportunity to reduce isolation, foster resilience and find strength in community. Join us to gain tools for emotional well-being, share coping strategies and build connections with others who truly understand what you’re going through. Participants can drop in for one, some or all group sessions. Group sessions will be held hybrid, with  in-person or virtual options to participate. The drop-in format of the group is a great way to access mental healthcare without having to make a weekly commitment.

Join Longhorn TIES and the Disability Cultural Center for in person study halls. Students are invited to bring their homework and study in community with other disabled and neurodivergent students. Snacks will be provided.

Service Dog Meet Ups

Date and Time: First Friday of the month from 12-1 p.m.

These meet ups are designed to connect and support people working with and/or training task-trained service and guide dog partners on campus. Meet Up locations vary each meeting. RSVP for Zoom link and location updates.

Longhorn TIES ND@UT Programs

ND@UT Programs, hosted by Longhorn TIES, provide social and skill building events and activities for neurodivergent students. Check out up upcoming events on their webpage.

Longhorn SHARE Communities

SHARE Communities are weekly student-led groups where peers with similar interests, concerns, or wellness goals can find community and social connection that goes beyond surface-level. View their current list of offerings on the SHARE Communities web page.
