DCC Events

DCC events are designed to provide opportunities for students, staff and faculty to learn about and promote disability culture, identity, resources and community. The DCC also promotes disability-related events hosted by campus partners. Please read the event description and intended audience to find events that are a good fit for you.

Spring 2026 Recurring Events at the DCC

 

Wheelchair/Adaptive Tennis and Pickleball 

Weekly on Mondays, starting February 2 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Whitaker Courts | RSVP by noon on Monday

Join the DCC, RecSports and Austin Adapted Sports for Wheelchair/Adaptive Tennis and Pickleball! All disabilities and experience levels are welcome. Equipment is provided. RSVP by Mondays at noon. 

Disability in the News 

Weekly on Tuesdays, starting February 3 | 12-1 p.m. | Virtual | RSVP

These weekly virtual meetups invite attendees to discuss current news related to disability; whether it’s a viral video, a policy update or anything else you want to discuss related to disability and current events! Participants are welcome to bring a topic to contribute to the week’s conversation or arrive ready to listen and discuss what others share. All are welcome! 

Accessible Pedagogy Conversations

Last Wednesday of the month | 12-1 p.m. | Virtual | RSVP

Join us on Zoom for Accessible Pedagogy Conversations. This informal, peer-directed space is open to all instructors who hope to share questions, strategies and recommendations regarding accommodations and inclusion in learning environments. With the support of CTL, DCC and D&A staff, we will explore new topics to enhance accessibility for all. Topics include:

  • 1/28: Discussing Accommodations with Students (Teaching Teams Welcome!)
  • 2/25: Digital Accessibility
  • 3/25: Supporting Disappearing Students/Checking in on Accommodations
  • 4/29: Accessibility & AI

Mindfulness at the DCC

Weekly on Wednesdays, starting February 4 | 1-2 p.m. | SSB 2.106 

Weekly drop-in with mindful UT, a program of the Longhorn Wellness Center. Drop in any time to experience rotating mindfulness activities like arts and crafts, gratitude, puzzles and games. All UT community members are welcome, no experience necessary

Study/Body Doubling Sessions 

Weekly on Wednesdays, starting February 4 | 2-4 p.m. | SSB 2.106 

Join Longhorn TIES and the Disability Cultural Center for in-person study and body doubling sessions. Students are invited to bring their homework and study in community with other disabled and neurodivergent students. Snacks provided. 

Disability Discussions 

Weekly on Wednesdays, starting February 4 | 3-4 p.m. | Hybrid: Zoom and SSB 2.106C | RSVP

Join the DCC for weekly discussions on a variety of disability-related topics. Whether you want to learn from other disabled people or have experiences or resources you are willing to share, these Disability Discussions provide space to have conversations you may not have elsewhere. Let’s harness the power and expertise of the UT Disability Community! Topics include:

Students on the Spectrum

Monthly on Wednesdays (1/21, 2/25, 3/25, 4/22) | 5:30-6:30 p.m. | SSB 2.106 | RSVP 

Monthly social activities and discussion nights for undergraduate and graduate students who identify as autistic. Connect, play games and share experiences and resources with one another. No proof of diagnosis is required. 

Book Chats

Biweekly on Thursdays, starting February 12 | 3-4 p.m. | SSB 2.106

Book Chats provide the opportunity to connect around disability themes, topics and experiences that show up in books, podcasts, shows and movies. Chat about what you are currently reading, watching or listening to; share recommendations; or simply learn what others are enjoying. No prior knowledge or preparation required. All are welcome! 

Graduate Student Meet-Ups

Biweekly on Fridays, starting February 13 | 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. | SSB 2.106 | RSVP

Join the DCC and Texas Center for Disability Studies for connection and collaboration! Disabled/neurodivergent graduate students and/or graduate students in disability studies are invited to drop by and enjoy a morning of conversation, networking and community building. Light breakfast will be provided.

Service Dog Meet-Ups

First Friday of the month | 11 a.m.-12 p.m. | Virtual | RSVP

Do you work with or train a guide dog or service dog? Join the Disability Cultural Center for our Service Dog Meet-Ups! Meet-ups bring together task-trained guide dog and service dog partners to discuss experiences, share tips and tricks, problem-solve challenges and build community.

Specific Dates: February 6, March 6, April 3, May 1  

Connecting Around Chronicity

Biweekly on Fridays, starting January 16 | 2-3 p.m. | Hybrid: Zoom and SSB 2.106C  | RSVP

Living with a chronic illness or condition can bring unique challenges, especially while navigating the demands of university life. Connecting Around Chronicity offers an opportunity to reduce isolation, foster resilience and find strength in community. Join us to gain tools for emotional well-being, share coping strategies and build connections with others who truly understand what you’re going through. Participants can drop in for one, some or all group sessions. Sessions will be held in hybrid format with in-person and virtual participation options.

Longhorn TIES ND@UT Programs

Longhorn SHARE Communities

SHARE Communities are weekly student-led groups where peers with similar interests, concerns, or wellness goals can find community and social connection that goes beyond surface-level.
