DCC events are designed to provide various opportunities for students, staff and faculty to learn about and promote disability culture, identity, resources and community. The DCC also promotes disability-related events hosted by campus partners. Please read the event description and intended audience to find events that are a good fit for you.

Wheelchair/Adaptive Tennis & Pickleball

Date and Time: Weekly on Mondays, starting September 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m

Location: Whitaker Courts  9, 10, 11

Join the DCC, Recreational Sports and Austin Adapted Sports for Wheelchair/Adaptive Tennis and Pickleball! All disabilities and experience levels are welcome. Equipment is provided. RSVP by Mondays at noon. 

Accessible Pedagogy Conversations 

Date/Time: Weekly on Tuesdays, starting September 2, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Join us on Zoom for Accessible Pedagogy Conversations. This informal, peer-directed space is open to all instructors who hope to share questions, strategies and recommendations regarding accommodations and inclusion in learning environments. With the support of CTL, DCC and D&A staff, we will explore new topics each week to enhance accessibility for all.

Study/Body Doubling Sessions 

Date/Time: Weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting September 11, 2:30-4:30 p.m.  

Location: DCC Lounge/Student Services Building 2.106 

Join Longhorn TIES and the Disability Cultural Center for in-person study and body doubling sessions. Students are invited to bring their homework and study in community with other disabled and neurodivergent students. Snacks provided. 

Disabled/Neurodivergent Employee Meet-Ups 

Date/Time: 3rd Wednesdays of the month (September 17, October 15, November 19), 12-1 p.m. 

Location: Virtual  (RSVP for Zoom link)

Monthly hybrid meet-ups for UT employees  who identify as disabled/neurodivergent to come together for community-building and to discuss common experiences. These events will support peer facilitation and open discussion around monthly topics.

Disability Discussions 

Date/Time: Weekly on Wednesdays, starting September 10, 3-4 p.m.

Students on the Spectrum

Location: DCC Lounge/Student Services Building 2.106 

Monthly social activities and discussion nights for undergraduate and graduate students who identify as autistic. Connect, play games and share experiences and resources with one another. No proof of diagnosis is required. RSVP for email reminders.

Service Dog Meet-Ups 

Date/Time: 1st Thursdays of the month, September 4, October 2, November 6, December 4, 10-11 a.m.

Do you work with or train a guide dog or service dog? Join the Disability Cultural Center for our Service Dog Meet-Ups! Meet-ups bring together task-trained guide dog and service dog partners and trainers to discuss experiences, share tips and tricks, problem-solve challenges and build community. 

Disability in the News

Date/Time: Weekly on Thursdays, starting September 11, 12-1 p.m. 

Location: Virtual (RSVP for Zoom link)

 These weekly virtual meetups invite attendees to discuss current news related to disability; whether it’s a viral video, a policy update or anything else you want to discuss related to disability and current events! Participants are welcome to bring a topic to contribute to the week’s conversation or arrive ready to listen and discuss what others share. All are welcome! 

Connecting Around Chronicity 

Date/Time: Biweekly starting September 4, Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Living with a chronic illness or condition can bring unique challenges, especially while navigating the demands of university life. Connecting Around Chronicity offers an opportunity to reduce isolation, foster resilience and find strength in community. Join us to gain tools for emotional well-being, share coping strategies and build connections with others who truly understand what you’re going through. Participants can drop in for one, some or all group sessions. Sessions will be held in hybrid format with in-person and virtual participation options.  

Graduate Student Meet-Ups

Date/Time: 2nd Friday of the month (September 12, October 10, November 14), 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Disabled/neurodivergent graduate students and/or graduate students in disability studies are invited to drop by and enjoy a morning of conversation, networking and community building. ND@UT Programs, hosted by Longhorn TIES, provide social and skill building events and activities for neurodivergent students. Check out up upcoming events on their webpage.

Longhorn SHARE Communities

SHARE Communities are weekly student-led groups where peers with similar interests, concerns, or wellness goals can find community and social connection that goes beyond surface-level. View their current list of offerings on the SHARE Communities web page.
